Kristina LopienskiHello! My name is Kristina Lopienski and I am a junior at Goshen College where I am majoring in Business. I’m from Bartlett, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and graduated from South Elgin High School in 2009. I also play for the Goshen College Women’s Soccer Team. I have been playing soccer for 13 years and usually play forward or midfield. I hold a 3.77 GPA and made the Goshen College Dean’s List several times. I wanted to intern for Freshlime for many reasons. One, I am super excited about getting marketing experience in on a professional level. And two, I get to help bring awareness to local businesses from many great areas I love such as Goshen, Michiana, and Chicago.

Of all the business courses I’ve taken thus far, one of my favorites has been Marketing. One of my favorite projects I had the opportunity to be a part of was for my Principles of Marketing class at GC. My most rewarding marketing experience came from finishing second in the nation in the Fall 2010 Pearson and (RED) Challenge. Four of my classmates and I had to choose an existing brand to potentially team up with (RED) in which a portion of their proceeds would go to help fight AIDS in Africa. The target market was directed at college students, so the product we chose was Dove Body Wash. We came up with a seventeen-page marketing plan along with a video that we submitted on Facebook. The winning video was chosen based on the number of votes it received. After a month of voting, the top ten submissions were then in the running for the grand prize. Even though we came very close to winning the cash prize and trip to New York to present our work to the leadership at (RED), it was still a good learning experience and I was able to see firsthand how social media can play a vital role in marketing. Aside from marketing, another area of Business I have developed interest in is environmental economics.

In addition to playing soccer and going to school, I also really enjoy traveling with my family. I have been to 31 countries and I just got back from France. One of my absolute favorite places I have visited is Greece. I will be going to Peru in January for three months as part of Goshen’s SST program. I will study in Lima for six weeks and do service for six weeks in a different part of Peru.

I am a huge user of social media in my daily life and social media marketing. I’ve also taken courses at GC on Office Software Productivity and Digital Design. Social media marketing has been a topic that I’ve studied in several different classes at Goshen College. I find social media marketing exceptionally useful and necessary for businesses to connect with and to reach out to their customers. I am very excited to be interning for Freshlime as I am eager to bring my experience and fresh ideas to the table while learning new skills that I’m sure I will continue to use in the future.
