How Facebook Saved a Dog’s Life

How Facebook Saved a Dog’s Life

Yellow LabSocial media is incredibly powerful for a variety of reasons. One of the most powerful things about it is that it has the ability to connect people instantly, in real-time.

I was recently on Facebook and I saw one of my business friends posed a question to another one of my friends (who is a dog expert) about whether or not the object her dog had eaten was hazardous.

I knew my dog expert friend was out of town and wouldn’t be able to respond quickly. I also knew, from being a passionate dog owner, that the object, a nectarine pit, was poisonous.

I quickly IMed the friend with the dog who was in trouble and walked her through what needed to happen including calling her emergency vet and being prepared to induce vomiting (gross, I know). I was also txt-ing another friend simultaneously for help because she was certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.  When the first vet’s advice seemed hokey, I urged her to get a second opinion and gave her the number to my emergency vet. An hour later the pit was out and her dog was safe and able to recover.

It was quite a scary experience but it could have been a lot worse. I am so thankful that with a team of people and the power of social media we were able to save the life of a dog.

The experience was proof to me that social media is really all about people helping people in business and in your personal life. It’s about sharing and providing people answers to things they need to know right now. Social media is shifting our society to a place where the information you seek will come to you, rather than you going and searching for it.
